Both mama- and baby-size hedgehogs are worked in stockinette with loop stitch to mimic their quills; safety buttons stand in for the eyes and nose.

Lamb’s Pride Superwash Worsted by Brown Sheep Company, 3½oz/100g skeins, each approx 200yd/183m (wool)
• 1 skein in #SW115 oats ‘n cream (A)
Lamb’s Pride Superwash Bulky by Brown Sheep Company, 3½oz/100g skeins, each approx 110yd/101m (wool)
• 1 skein in #SWB178 rootbeer (B)
• One set (5) size 6 (4mm) double-pointed needles (dpn) OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE
• Stitch markers
• One 9mm plastic safety eye (for each)
• Two 7mm plastic safety eyes for adult
• Two 6mm plastic safety eyes for baby
• Fiberfill
• Contrasting scrap yarn

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

GAUGE
20 sts and 32 rows to 4″/10cm over St st using size 6 (4mm) needles.

In the wild, these mushrooms carry the hedgehog moniker because of the spines on the underside of the cap. Who knew? Embroider the satin-stitch dots on the mushrooms after stuffing them to keep the stitching from puckering the cap.
